Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center is a regional center for environmental education and outdoor recreation located in beautiful Kandiyohi County in west-central Minnesota.   Thanks for visiting our website!!   We provide an exciting array of hands-on learning adventures for all ages, as well as beautiful facilities for meetings and special events.   Give us a call and let us customize a program or event for your group.

Due to Covid19-  PWELC Buildings will be closed to visitors, except by appointment, until further notice.  Call today to schedule your PWELC adventure or to reserve a building for your special event.
July-August Office hours will be:  8am-Noon, Monday thru Friday. 
Hiking and biking trails are open, free of charge, to the public during daylight hours.
Please observe social distance guidelines and plan to wear masks if you will be in the buildings.

Fat-Tire bike, kayak, and canoe rentals are available by reservation. 
Please call 320-354-5894 during office hours to make arrangements.

Music Under the Prairie Stars-
Due to COVID19, the 2020 Prairie Stars event will not be held at PWELC this September.
Although we are unable to gather for our annual fundraiser we still need and very much appreciate your support!
Please consider making your customary gift to the Prairie Stars to help support the work of PWELC.

Just like many restaurants and other local businesses, COVID19 has caused a substantial hardship for PWELC.   Here are some ways that you can help to support our work:

-Buy a membership.
-Set up a program for your family or small group
(sporting clays/kayak/nature classes)
-Rent space for a meeting or gathering.
-Rent fat tire bikes.
(Or all of the above)

The Kandi Trail Riders Club has completed 4.5 miles of mountain bike trail.   KTR welcomes volunteers to assist with  trail construction and maintenance.   Please contact the PWELC office if you would like to assist with mountain bike trails and programs. 

The new 7.9kw solar array, installed by MNSolar, on the pavilion, is putting power out onto the grid.   Thanks to our Prairie Stars Fund-a-Need donors!    The recent solar addition brings us up to 40KW total renewable energy generation capacity with a combination of wind and solar.  We love sunny and windy days.

Prairie Woods on the go!   The Big Canoe, the  Prairie Woods Pinnacle- mobile rock climbing tower, the enviro-puppet theatre and the Yellow Boats Project will be busy throughout the region this summer getting kids up off of the couch and into the great outdoors.   Click on the Facebook link to see photos of some of the planned and past activities and give us a call to schedule a PWELC program for your group or community festival.

*Outreach programs featuring a 34' voyageur canoe, 26' portable climbing wall, and "Lorax" puppet show.
