Happy Trails
Prairie Woods maintains approximately 10 km of trails over rolling glacial terrain, through woods, and prairies, near ponds and wetlands. The trail network covers much of PWELC’s 560 acres.
Equipment Rental Pricing
Equipment rentals are available by reservation only. Please call at least 24 hours in advance. For weekend rentals, please contact us at 320-354-5894 by noon on Friday. Note that the trailhead is located in the lower level of the main education building, and we do not maintain regular hours there.
Student rentals are available for $5 to all students from pre-K through college.
A $30 damage deposit is required for off-site use of skis and snowshoes, which is fully refundable upon the return of the equipment. For full weekend rentals, you can pick up the equipment on Friday afternoon and return it Monday morning.

From ‘burrr’ to ‘brave’
You’ll warm up in no time at all with our many winter activities
• Trails are groomed for cross-country skiing during the winter.
• Please do not walk or snowshoe on groomed xc ski trails.
• Dogs are not allowed on groomed ski trails. Dogs must be in close control of their handlers and kept on a leash. Dogs are not allowed in buildings, with the exception of service dogs.
• Ski and Snowshoe equipment may be taken off-site. Other groomed trails within 10-15 minutes of Prairie Woods include Sibley State Park to the north and Robbins Island and Swan Lake Trails to the south in Willmar.
